CANYONS OF THE ANCIENTS NATIONAL MONUMENT COLORADO
The Monument is located in southwest Colorado near the town of Cortez. It contains over 171,000 acres, most of which is backcountry and was created to protect the cultural and natural resources on a regional scale. The Bureau of Land Management oversees the Monument. Saddlehorn Pueblo is located on the Sand Canyon Trail, a six-mile one way trail, which contains numerous other pueblo sites along its length. The ruins sit on a shallow alcove beneath a saddlehorn-shaped sandstone point. The pueblo has two rooms and a nearby partially excavated ceremonial kiva. The site dates to around 1250AD.
