User / Roland Bogush / Douglas C47 Skytrain 'Placid Lassie' coming in to land

This aircraft, built in 1943, flew 2 missions over Normandy on D-Day, towing gliders of troops and supplies, and subsequently supported other missions of the invasion, including Market Garden. The aircraft seems to have been in pretty much continuous use as a civilian passenger and cargo carrier for most of the intervening 80 years.
Many Douglas DC-3/C47 aircraft are still airworthy, and a number still in commercial use.
