The P-40 is something of an unsung hero amongst WW2 fighter planes, but when played to its strength at medium and low altitudes it was highly successful and served with several Allied Air Forces in many theatres of the war.
Although initially unsuccessful in the Far East, flown skilfully, the P-40 could even match the Japanese A6M Zero.
Well over 13,000 of the type were eventually manufactured, the last not retiring (from the Brazilian AF) until 1958.
