2,709 items
It snowed overnight and fog moved into the canyon, transforming the scene into an ominous and moody setting. The landscape was completely covered in a gray mist. Fog may move swiftly and disappear straightaway. It was a hit or miss morning.

There are several types of fog: Radiation Fog, Advection Fog, Freezing Fog, Evaporation Fog and Mountain/Valley Fog. This type of fog is the one of most common in the country, especially in the fall and winter. Radiation fog forms when the ground cools, then cooling surrounding air to its dew point. This fog tends to "burn-off" in the morning as the sun re-heats the ground and air. Common both at night and dawn.

The difference between fog and clouds is that Clouds form when the water vapor (a gaseous form of water) turns into liquid and form on tiny particles like dust whereas fog is formed when the air near the ground cools enough to turn its water vapor into liquid water or ice.

Also, clouds can form at any altitude and are present in any climate whereas fog can only form at ground level and are present during cold climatic conditions only.
