A series of Northern Experiences Many things embody the Term "Up North" to many people. Each person has his or her own experience with it and usually first defined when your young. To me, It meant weekends of three hour tours on 75 hoping the Zilwaukee bridge wasn't open for a boat. (Ya, I'm that old) stuffed in the back of a Datsun b-210 hatch back with two cats a Doberman only to run wild on 30 acres in the woods with a trout stream running through it. That was it. I was a logger. Had my wrist rocket and knife, flannel, jeans and boots, bow, fishing pole and mini bike. No electricity and an out house and there was always shit to get into. Pretty friggin cool. I always appreciated coming home and taking a hot shower. That creek was cold and everything smelled like a campfire.

Another from the inside of the ever lovable crumbling location. Today there was a multi story fire at this location, probably set to speed up the unsightly property and avoid abatement permits for demolition of the abandonment. Ok, Ill be nice. I must have been set by a vagrant who was trying to keep warm during the inclement weather of the Michigan fall season. Maybe, just maybe, and im reaching here, a spark pop'd from a scrappers torch which hit a bucket of oil soaked rags and set a blaze a building that literally has nothing in it to burn other than piles of lead paint covered wooden flooring.
Long of the short, its an eye sore and I really feel bad for the guy who lives in one of the units on the south end, truly a shame, He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met whose continuously reaching out to all of Gods lost children. Stop by, He'll pray for you.

Meet Ed. Ed helped with the number 17 spot out of 100 in my "100 strangers" project by letting me take a photo of his family. Here we are in the middle of the largest abandoned structure on the North American Continent and we see two guys on motorcycles riding through the cooridors, up and down stair wells.... and then we here people approaching us but it didn't sound like the typical voices you here in abandonment's, we heard kids. It's Ed and his family.
Ed is originally from New Jersey and has been living in the D for several years now and his wife just moved here with her kids. They were going through the building checking out the graffiti a pickin up a dime when one around. Its always nice to meet people like Ed who appreciate the some of the finer things in life, Exploring.

Ok.. so this is a first. Real Urban Exploring... with Dirt bikes. The awe of a 10 year old overwhelmed me as I watched these guys ride up. Being a bike owner myself, I was just talking with the fellas at the Cycle Works in Clawson about biking through the Abandonment's. Header Jr Excuse My Sarcasm were talking about it too and then these Rick and Brian | real names hidden for anonymities sake are #18 and #19 in my 100 strangers project. come along and do it right. Although I don't think I would be hitting this place at 45 mph with all the holes in the floors but hey, we all have a vice right?
