We had a super time in Newcastle. I only took a couple of photos in the city itself but we did go out to the coast where despite it being -2 with wind chill we took some lovely photos. When I am less busy (yes still chasing my tail feathers) I will post them.

This is the millennium bridge which changes colours throughout the night.
There is one in the comments below showing the view from our hotel window

like being the first one across the causeway. The causeway to St Mary's Lighthouse is covered when the tide is in. We turned up at 9.30 am so that I could show Phill this beautiful place. As we walked down from the car the tide was receding and we were the first ones to walk across to the lighthouse that morning. It was bitterly cold with the waves crashing against the rocks but what a joy to have the solitude of the place to ourselves. By the time we walked back others were walking out to the lighthouse.

There were huge waves crashing against the rocks at St Mary's lighthouse. I cannot hazard a guess of the temperature of the water but it was 3 degrees on shore and with wind chill it was about zero degrees. This was at 9.30 am. Phill and I were fully layered up with hats, gloves etc and we were still freezing cold. So heaven knows how cold the guy in the photo below was. Do you think Don would be game for this Carlene?

Glad we weren't up there this weekend as they had snow on the same beach on Friday!

We saw this small flock of birds huddled up on the rocks. We saw them a little later running up and down the sand picking up their food from the beach. They had obviously been waiting for the tide to go out. I knew the one to the left was a plover but I had to google what the others were. I think they are sanderlings.

.........yes, but mine is prettier says the oystercatcher.

The long beaked curlew and the oyster catcher were vying for food along the coastline at Whitley Bay
