Father Christmas bought me a new waterproof camera so what better way to test it out at Portland Bill on a blowy showery day. I had also received a cold for Christmas so yesterday was the first day I really felt up to getting out and about.

Today we are off to London to see the musical Sunny Afternoons. A great way to spend another rainy day.

So what if the sky is black and the showers are coming down: a breath of fresh air was definitely needed today. After our quick jaunt out, I can confirm that the temperatures are definitely on the way down:-(

I really am getting good use out of my new waterproof camera

The weather has been wild here for the past couple of days. Saturday I could hear the wind actually whistling in the house, even though we have double glazing. It rained most of the day. Sunday morning was fine so I ventured out into the Forest. There was lots of debris from fallen branches. I got out to take some photos of a small herd of Shetlands and although the wind was calmer at this point, it was bitingly cold. Good job these little ones are built for it, though this one was sheltering at the side of a tree. Later on that evening the high winds returned and I could hear the rain pelting against the window (cats kept looking to see what it was) and then finally we ended up with lightening and thunder at 11.00pm. Luckily, I was tucked up in bed by then.

We were driving home from a day out at Lacock today and on the way home we took at different route across the Forest. Talk about serendipity! Look at the name of the village we drove past - well how could we resist? Lover is pronounced like Dover but who cares? Lots of people used to send their Valentines cards through the post office there as they would be postmarked "Lover" but, sadly, it closed down in 2008.

It was quite a feat to get the road sign and us in shot with my little camera.

We drove over to Brighton on Saturday as the weather wasn't up to much and we thought we could mooch around North Laines. If you like retro and the unusual then it is a great place full of interesting independent shops and interesting individuals.
Phill bought a cap made by Stetson (and yes I will get a photo).
After lunch we thought we would grab some sea air and headed down to the promenade. The intention was to walk along the pier. We lasted about 10 minutes as without the cover of the buildings we were nearly blown off our feet.

"Shopping in North Laine Brighton is a real mix of the ethnic, exotic and funky. You'll find anything from 50's kitsch and muslin from Mesopotamia to furniture from Mexico and chic vintage fashion" North Laines
