This is part of a national nature reserve near Porthcawl and is a great area of wetlands, sand dunes and scrub.

The sand dunes are part of a extensive stretch of sandy dunes that stretch along the coast from the river Ogmore to the Gower peninsula. Heavy industry at the Port Talbot Steelworks and the Chemical Industry in Jersey Marine have blighted part of this coastline but there is no doubt it must have been a fabulous sight in years gone by.

Kenfig Pool, covering some 70 acres, is a great place to see wildlife and an important feature of the Kenfig Dunes National Nature Reserve. Although only just over 12 feet in depth at its deepest point, it was long reputed locally to be "bottomless".

The associated facilities of Port Talbot Steelworks can be seen in the distance.

The 300mm focal length brings everything together which is borne out when you try to walk towards these things - you feel that you are walking for ever and do not really get that close!

One of my favourite walks is from Rest Bay onto and along this beach. On a summer's day there is no finer walk. Apart from the odd dog walker there is very rarely many people around.

I always have a nightmare when I walk here from the Nature Reserve car park. I always seem to get 'lost' in the sand dune system. It is always a great feeling when you finally climb that last sand dune and get a view of the beach and the sea.

I posted a similar silhouette a few months ago but never got round to this one.

The photo is desaturated which I quite like. I do not remember doing this in pp (I processed it a number of months ago). Probably a by-product of the 70-300mm lens and the angle of the sun. I find that the Nikkor 70-300 and 105mm lenses tend to produce slightly desaturated raw images on my NIkon D90 compared to say the Nikkor 70-105mm and Sigma 10-20mm lenses.
