I was driving a backroad between Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico, and I missed a turn and ended up along this side street. I wanted to stay longer, but there were a lot of dogs running around and barking at me, so I only shot for about a minute or two. I'm finally getting some photography time in the great state of Washington. It's been a long time coming, and I decided to start in the Palouse Region because I need to be in Moscow, Idaho in a couple days.

There are a bunch of fires burning all around the northwest corner of the United States right now, and I was super bummed upon my arrival yesterday at Glacier National Park to see that the visibility was absolutely awful. It was really bad this morning at sunrise, but 90 MPH wind brought a little storm over the park which cleaned everything up, at least for tonight. My oldest friend, Justin, and I hiked a little bit on the Highline Trail and endured a little bit of hail to watch a pretty glorious light show in maybe the most beautiful National Park in the country.

Camping alone in grizzly country in Glacier National Park made me a bit paranoid. There are signs at every trailhead that warn me against doing things that I always do like hike alone or after dark. I was doing everything I could to make noise and not have a bear encounter, and I even made my own Weird Al Yankovich version of my favorite Elvis Presley song: "Well since my bearby left me, I found a new trail to hike." This got old though, so one night I just went for a drive and found this patch of wildflowers not too far from a highway. I love Glacier National Park and think it might be the prettiest park of them all, but I'm not going back until I have a group of 3-4 backpackers with me for an epic 40-50 mile hike.
