Whitsand Bay is in the far south-east of Cornwall and stretches for several miles from the village of Portwrinkle - seen in the centre of the picture - all the way to Rame Head. At low tide there are beautiful sandy beaches interspersed with large rocks. During the holiday season there are several RNLI posts which provide safety cover for bathers. This was taken from Sharrow Point.

Whitsand Bay runs along the south-east coast of Cornwall from Rame Head in the east to Portwrinkle in the west. There are beautiful golden beaches at low tide but when the tide is high these are covered by the sea. Access to the beaches is limited to several narrow footpaths which wind their way down the sloping cliffs while car parking is also extremely limited. However, the coast road which runs along the top of the cliffs provides some of the finest sea views in Cornwall.

Whitsand Bay is in the far south-east of Cornwall, running from Portwrinkle along to the Rame Peninsula, which is seen in the distance. On the top of Rame Head are the ruins of a medieval chapel, from which the Spanish Armada was first spotted in 1588. At low tide there are beautiful sandy beaches all along Whitsand Bay. In the centre of the picture is Sharrow Point with its former coastguard lookout. During the summer months the lookout is manned by lifeguards from the RNLI, which has expanded its activities in recent years. The coast along this part of Whitsand Bay is looked after by the National Trust.

Portwrinkle is a small village on the south Cornish coast in Whitsand Bay. On a day when winds reached 90mph on the south coast of England the sea is shown crashing against the remains of an ancient harbour at the foot of the cliffs.
