Lerryn is a little village that sits astride the River Lerryn in south-east Cornwall. The river itself feeds into the River Fowey, which flows into the English Channel at Fowey. The river is tidal up to the village and there are stepping-stones across the river which are crossable at low water. There is also an ancient stone pack-horse bridge. The village has a small school of less than 50 pupils, a post office shop and a pub, the Ship Inn, which dates from at least 1762. Much of the surrounding countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This is one of my favourite places in Cornwall. Lerryn is a delightful little village that sits each side of the River Lerryn, which feeds into the River Fowey a few miles south of Lostwithiel. The area is heavily wooded and there are very pleasant walks to be had along the river banks. When the tide goes out the river simply becomes a small stream, leaving most of the small boats stranded on the mud.

One of my favourite little inland villages in Cornwall is Lerryn, which sits astride the Lerryn River. Lerryn functioned as a port until the early 20th century, by which time the river had silted up. Now it is just home to a number of small boats. A lime kiln dates from the early 1800s. As Cornwall has little limestone of its own it would have been imported and turned into lime in the kiln. It was then used by farmers to help improve the soil of their fields. Much of the surrounding countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The beautiful village of Lerryn sits either side of the Lerryn River, which feeds into the River Fowey in south-east Cornwall. The river is quite shallow here, and as well as a medieval bridge there are stepping stones which enable you to cross it at low tide. This is a very safe area for boating and canoing, and these canoists are taking full advantage of the high tide.

This is one of my favourite inland destinations in Cornwall and was pictured back in the summer of 2022. The tiny village of Lerryn sits astride the Lerryn River which in turn feeds into the River Fowey. Much of the surrounding countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
A silver smelting house operated here between 1556 and 1583 with the ore coming from various mines in Cornwall. In 1573 Queen Elizabeth ordered that a rate be levied for rebuilding the old stone bridge across the Lerryn River in order to aid production of silver.
Lerryn functioned as a port until the early 20th century, by which time the river had silted up. At low tide there is now just a narrow stream surrounded by mud banks.
