The beautiful bridge which crosses the River Cam at Trinity College dates from 1764 and was built by James Essex, a builder and architect who worked at many of the Cambridge colleges. It replaced a stone bridge built in 1651.

The front of King's College is on King's Parade in the centre of the old city. The college dates from 1441, when it was founded by King Henry VI. But these buildings date from around 1828, and were designed by William Wilkins. The famous chapel, dating from 1446, is in the centre. In the distance on the right we can see the Senate House, where all the university's students receive their degrees.

This is probably the oldest street in Cambridge, and was originally the Roman road known as Via Devana, which provided the main gateway into the city from the west. This road ran from Colchester to Chester. In the 16th century the buildings on the left were constructed, and they have a typical Tudor design though they have been altered many times over the years. They are mostly Grade II-listed buildings. The pedestrian on the right is walking past the main gateway of Magdalene College. This part of the college buildings also dates from the 16th century though the college itself was founded in 1428.
