The Garlandstone (seen in the distance) was built in 1909 and was one of the last timber merchant ships to be built, just a mile or so down river from the quay. Morwellham Quay, on the banks of the River Tamar, was once an important port for the export of copper and various minerals. Ships travelled between here and South Wales, taking copper, tin and arsenic in one direction, while importing coal. Morwellham Quay is now a museum, and some of its buildings were used in a recent TV series, "Edwardian Farm".

Morwellham Quay, on the banks of the River Tamar, was once an important port for the export of copper and various minerals. Ships travelled between here and South Wales, taking copper, tin and arsenic in one direction, while importing coal. This wagon was presumably used for transporting copper ore from the mine to the quayside. Morwellham Quay is now a museum, and some of its buildings were used in a recent TV series .

This is part of the restored village at the Morwellham Quay open air museum on the River Tamar in Devon. The village includes shops, cottages, a school, a pub, workshops and numerous other items.

Morwellham Quay was originally set up by the Benedictine monks of Tavistock Abbey to carry goods to and from Plymouth on the River Tamar, By the 12th century, tin ore was being transported through the quay, followed by lead and silver ores. Later, copper deposits were also discovered at the Quay itself and the George and Charlotte Mine opened in the 18th century. The restored village dates mainly from the early-mid 1800s.

Museum staff dress up in appropriate clothing to man the various exhibits and explain them to visitors.

These old carriages were lined up outside the blacksmith's workshop at Morwellham Quay on the Devon side of the River Tamar.

The quay is now an open-air museum, and was originally set up by the Benedictine monks of Tavistock Abbey to carry goods to and from Plymouth on the River Tamar, By the 12th century, tin ore was being transported through the quay, followed by lead and silver ores. Later, copper deposits were discovered at the Quay itself and the George and Charlotte Mine opened in the 18th century. A small train now takes visitors through the riverside mine.

Ships like the one in the background used to take copper ore for smelting in South Wales, bringing coal back on the return journey.
