The delightful Jetty Street in Cromer, Norfolk, features numerous brightly-painted terraced houses, most of which have bay windows enabling the occupants to have a view of the sea.

The north Norfolk coast has a series of unspoilt muddy creeks and inlets, and is renowned for its birdlife. This is Burnham Overy Staithe, a favourite with local artists.

The pier at Cromer on the Norfolk coast dates originally from 1901, but it was severely damaged in the gales of 1953, and was rebuilt in 1955. The pier features a theatre which seats over 500. There is a lifeboat station at the end of the pier.

This medieval rood screen, featuring 15th century paintings of eight saints, is in the church at Trimingham, near Cromer on the Norfolk coast. The fourth painting from the left is of St John the Baptist, after whose head the church is named. My father sang here in the choir when he was a young boy.

The seafront at Cromer in north Norfolk has a lengthy promenade, a very fine pier and sandy beaches. But it can be very bracing with the wind blowing off the North Sea. As well as being a delightful seaside resort, the town is famous for its crabs. Its most famous resident was the much-decorated lifeboat coxwain, Henry Blogg. The Lifeboat Museum is worth a visit.
