Stow-on-the-Wold is a small market town in Gloucestershire. It is situated on top of an 800 ft hill, at the convergence of a number of major roads through the Cotswolds, including the old Roman road, the Fosse Way (A429). The town was founded as a planned market place by Norman lords to take advantage of trade on the converging roads. It is a popular tourist destination. Many of the town's buildings are constructed from the butter-coloured Cotswold stone. The picture features Church Street.
