Sidmouth is one of my favourite towns in England. It has a somewhat genteel air to it, and perhaps that's why it has become a popular place for those who are looking for somewhere very nice and relatively quiet to retire. A large part of the town has been designated a conservation area, and the wide Esplanade has been a prominent feature since Regency times.
