This ford across the River Meavy in the south-west of Dartmoor saves large vehicles from having to negotiate a very narrow stone bridge. This is adjacent to the pretty little village of Meavy, from which the river takes its name. The river is just a few miles in length and rises on Dartmoor near Princetown before joining the River Plym near Shaugh Prior. It provides a source for the Burrator Reservoir.
