This is one of my favourite inland destinations in Cornwall and was pictured back in the summer of 2020. The tiny village of Lerryn sits astride the Lerryn River which in turn feeds into the River Fowey. Much of the surrounding countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A silver smelting house operated here between 1556 and 1583 with the ore coming from various mines in Cornwall. In 1573 Queen Elizabeth ordered that a rate be levied for rebuilding the old stone bridge in order to aid production of silver. The bridge can just be seen in the distance.

Lerryn functioned as a port until the early 20th century, by which time the river had silted up. At low tide there is now just a narrow stream surrounded by mud banks.
