Last week we visited the Cotswolds on a day's outing, and called in at the delightful little market town of Shipston-on-Stour. This is in south Warwickshire and on the edge of the Cotswolds. We wandered around the town and found a coffee shop that was open. This was before the relaxation of the lockdown, and while we were unable to sit inside they had thoughtfully provided a couple of small benches outside where we could sit and drink our coffees. This is Sheep Street in the town centre. The name Shipston derives from being known in ancient times as 'Sheep-wash-Town'. It was for a long time an important sheep market town until the demand for local wool declined with the advent of the railways in the mid-19th century.
