Kingsand and its twin village of Cawsand, just out of shot to the left, are former fishing villages on the Rame Peninsula in the far south-east of Cornwall where they overlook Plymouth Sound. Until the middle of the 19th century the boundary between Devon and Cornwall lay between the two villages. It is marked by a plaque on the wall of a cottage.

The most famous landmark at Kingsand is the clock tower, built in 1909 as part of the adjacent Maker with Rame Institute to celebrate the coronation of King George V. The foundations of the clock tower were nearly washed away in a violent storm several years ago, but fortunately it was saved after substantial rebuilding of the sea defences.
