In an unmarked grave lies
Patrick Mary Joseph Butler
25.9.1857 - 22.12.1891
Died suddenly at Mount Marmion by circumstances that "the evidence does not enable us to say" son of Victoria Plains Pioneers whose sesquicentennial departure this memorial marks (1995)
Patrick's parents were John Martin Butler (1814-1895) and Mary Clune (1832-1902). The Clunes and Butlers were influential pastoralists in Victoria Plains (New Norcia). members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/shipping/sophia.htm
Mount Marmion is between Derby and the Napier Range. As the Butlers were pastoralists from the south and the date of his death it is likely they were part of the attempts to manage sheep flocks in the Kimberley.
Sesquicentennial: 1845-1995
