Old Track between Sturt Creek and Old Carranya. It is fairly certain that James Annetts (16) and Simon Amos (17) used this track that fateful December in 1996 as they possibly headed from Nicholson Station where they had been left alone, to Alice Springs but instead became lost and perished in the Great Sandy Desert when their vehicle became bogged.
Note: Map location is very approximate. S310547
deathinthesand.weebly.com/. They most likely passed near Balgo before perishing on "cut roads" further south.
Put 21°31'00.0"S 127°34'42.0"E into Google Earth to view the site where the remains of James Annetts and Simon Amos were found in the Great Sandy Desert. (decimal: -21.516667 127.566667)

Fatima Lulu hand-decorated a coffee tin which contained sorry statements by those who attended a reconciliation ceremony here in May 1998. S310540

The sorry statements have been burnt in fires since then.
The can is at a Massacre site above Sturt Creek. Oral history states Aboriginal people were tied up near the goat yard, killed, buried in this well and the bodies burnt. Locals thought the wires which they hung from the cross were fencing wire 'handcuffs' used on Aboriginal people. It is possible the wire shapes are from their use in binding timber stakes or poles together at the nearby goat yard or other structures.

View of Sturt Creek Chuall permanent pool below Massacre Site. Sturt Creek Station buildings on opposite side of creek. In the background can be seen what may be the remains of the causeway for the early road from Alice Springs to Old Halls Creek. The pool and massacre site are on Sturt Creek Station, via Halls Creek, Western Australia. S310542
