View of thunderstorm from the sealed road into Beagle Bay. What I was driving into though I never caught up with the storm only the muddy and slippery pindan track. (In 2010 there was less than 20km of bitumen before tackling the old original track. Closer to Broome there was a sealed section also). S39518

Water running down the middle of the road. Because in places the road slopes toward the centre, driving along the side was a slippery and slow affair - the vehicle ever determined to slide into the muddy water, slipping sideways rather than obeying the steering.
2923: Road has been reconstructed and is now an all-weather road.

The Cape Leveque Road after a thunderstorm - muddy and slippery with water flowing down the road. The mud meant the vehicle slid to the lowest part of the road where the water was deepest. I didn't want to stop to take the photo. There was constant side to side as well as vertical movement - hence photo showing camera shake.

Because the Cape Leveque road is in places lower than the surrounding land, during rain the road becomes a creek.

Cape Leveque road after a thunderstorm. When wet, Pindan becomes soft and sloppy. When dry it is about as hard as bitumen.
