A fairly common bird seen in the more rural areas of the North Island. Usually seen on fence posts and foraging in the pastures presumably eating insects and seeds

One of several images taken of this species in farmland below the summit of Mt. Egmont in New Zealand. Taken just on dusk so good light was a battle and no tripod to use

No idea of the name of this fall, somewhere on the way to Auckland off the motorway, easily overlooked

Miranda beach is known as the shorebird region of the north Island, but a ferocious storm blew up overnight so not much sightseeing or birding done in the area. A place well worth visiting though, with plenty of free camping available and a nice pub with good meals nearby. The shorebird info facility is worth a visit as is the nearby bird hide. The region is very open so wind can be a problem, we spent a night being rocked about in the motorhome from gusty winds....still a good place to visit
Best time to view the big flocks of birds and get close is 2 hours either side of the high tide apparently....we missed out for the most part. Huge flocks of Oystercatchers and Stilts abound here and a good variety of other migratory birds...if you can get close enough for decent photos
