We won the permit lottery at the Paria Contact Station, but lost the weather lottery the following day. The forecast called for morning snow with a mid-day break in the storm allowing for partly sunny skies. That sun never came, making the hike in a frigid slog. Gray skies muted the colors and helped make all of my photos bland.

Still, I consider the trip worth it... as there were others in the lottery from as far away as Japan that were unable to score a permit.
