The Old Fraser River Footbridge, Quesnel, BC, Canada.

.
Built in 1928. Opened to the public on March 8. Supported on five concrete piers. Three spans are 177 feet long and two are 150. Total length = 831 feet.

The original bridge was maintained for pedestrian use and as a backup for emergency vehicles. The footbridge is now the centerpiece of the Riverfront Trail system and recognized as the longest wood truss walking bridge in the world. In 2010 this valued community asset required further structural repair. Much of the decking and many of the truss members and metal connectors were replaced and a programmable lighting array was installed [Power required to operate the new lighting system? Less than that needed for two hair dryers].

One of my passions is experimenting with light and colours on goatsbeard seedheads.

Interestingly enough, the first time I ever saw a goatsbeard seedhead was back in July of 2006 right here on Quesnel's Riverfront Trail, a scenic and peaceful trail that runs along the shore of the Quesnel and Fraser Rivers.

Almost painterly, abstract effect created in the sunlit, clear waters of the mighty Fraser River as it rushes over stones and leaves wedged in its river bed.

It was so cool to see the fish (see below) jumping and splashing in the shallows. Quesnel, BC, Canada.
