In late summer and early autumn, it is very common to see haystacks, the winter's supply of food for sheep, goats, cows and horses, stored on village rooftops. See below for more of these mud villages that dot the landscape of northwestern Iran.
PS the cone-shaped piles of fresh dung, as well as the mixture of dung and grain stubble that has been shaped into patties and dried, in the center of this photo, are used by the villagers for fuel in winter.

The fading light of the evening sun bathes this magnificent, high mountain terrain with striking colours. The Zagros Mountains (Kuhha-ye Zagros) are Iran's second largest mountain range. They have a length of 1500 kilometres from western Iran, from Kurdistan at the border with Iraq to the southern parts of the Persian Gulf.
