My experimentation with goatsbeard seedheads continues. This one is all about colour, textures and shapes. I like the abstract quality that I have achieved here, hope you do too.

The title is taken from the 1966 song by The Beach Boys and this cut is from their 1976 tour. Enjoy!

Diamond Lake is a lake in the southern part of the U.S. state of Oregon. It lies near the junction of Oregon Route 138 and Oregon Route 230 in the Umpqua National Forest in Douglas County. It is located between Mount Bailey to the west and Mount Thielsen to the east; it is just north of Crater Lake National Park.

Diamond Lake has been known as one of the most desired fishing lakes in Southern Oregon, famous for its large rainbow trout, although the species is not native to the lake.[2]

Diamond Lake was named for John Diamond, for whom Diamond Peak is also named.[1] He discovered the lake in 1852 while on the summit of Diamond Peak.[1] Diamond was a pioneer settler of Coburg, Oregon who was part of a party that was opening a road between the Middle Fork Willamette River and Idaho as an immigration route.[1]

The post office of Diamond Lake, Oregon was established in 1925 and ran until 1956, when it was changed to a summer-only office.

Wildlife sighting in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.

Actually saw two large herd of elk on our drive through the Park.

The elk, or wapiti (Cervus canadensis), is the second largest species of deer in the world, and one of the largest mammals in North America and eastern Asia. They are almost identical to red deer found in Europe, and were long believed to be subspecies of each other, though they have recently been determined to be distinct based on DNA evidence. In the deer family, only the moose, which is called an "elk" in Europe, is larger.

Male elk have large antlers which are shed each year. Males engage in ritualized mating behaviors during the rut, including posturing, antler wrestling and bugling, a loud series of screams which establishes dominance over other males and attracts females. The bugle call is one of the most distinctive calls in nature.

In October 2007, I took this short video clip of a pair of male elk "fighting" during thhe rutting season. Listen to the bugling sound they make!

Have a great day and thanks for dropping by.

This is a view of Wizard Island, the gorgeous blue waters of the caldera lake and the surrounding caldera walls as taken from a great vantage point on the scenic Crater Lake's Rim Drive. Oregon, USA..

Crater Lake is a caldera lake located in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and famous for its deep blue color and water clarity. The lake partly fills a nearly 1,958 foot (597 m) deep caldera[1] that was formed around 7,700 (± 150) years ago[2] by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama. [...].

The Klamath tribe of Native Americans, who may have witnessed the collapse of Mount Mazama and the formation of Crater Lake, have long regarded the lake as a sacred site. Their legends tell of a battle between the sky god Skell and Llao, the god of the underworld. Mount Mazama was destroyed in the battle, creating Crater Lake. The Klamath people used Crater Lake in vision quests, which often involved climbing the caldera walls and other dangerous tasks. Those who were successful in such quests were often regarded as having more spiritual powers. The tribe still holds Crater Lake in high regard as a spiritual site.[15][16]

[...]. After Mt. Mazama blew up its summit in a cataclysmic eruption 7700 years ago, the old lava flow was left as the Watchman (as featured in my previous image www.flickr.com/photos/artsylens/4024564572/in/set-7215760... ), a crest on the gaping caldera's rim. Since then the caldera has sprouted a cinder cone (Wizard Island) and gradually filled with water.

Bernkastel-Kues (German pronunciation: [ˌbɛɐ̯nkastəlˈkuːs]) is a town over 700 years old, located on the Middle Moselle river in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Bernkastel-Kues is very famous for its wines and the mediaeval market square. The square is surrounded by many well preserved half-timbered houses as well as the Renaissance city hall built in 1608. Especially well-known is the very small and narrow so-called "Spitzhäuschen" (the "Pointed House") which dates back to 1416.
