"Big Mamma" awake

We were fortunate to come across this beautiful old female grizzly sleeping peacefully on a very old dead tree. We watched her for quite a while, being careful not to disturb her. Some call her "Big Mama" and she's a long time resident of the Khutz. She's estimated to be at least 25 years old and perhaps had 5-6 set of cubs which is amazing. The other grizzlies didn't bother her as she contentedly fed on the mature Lyngbye's sedge. Likely past her ability of conceive, the big males didn't try to mate with her. A big yawn; noticeable is the absence of teeth. She does have some but most are ground down, a testimony to her age.

Every now and then, she'd move around and change her position. For an old bear, her from claws are impressive and intimidating.
