This is where I went August 22, George's Island. I place I have always wanted to go, even though it is in Halifax Harbour access to it is normally not allowed.
From August 8 to September 6 there WERE tickets available to go to the island (Saturday & Sunday - 11:20 a.m. to 5 p.m) but they all sold out in a hurry.

Occupied by British military forces in 1750, Georges Island’s strategic position in the middle of Halifax Harbour catapulted it to the heart of seaward defences for one of the principal naval stations in the British Empire in the 18th and 19th centuries. The island came under the command of Prince Edward in 1794 amidst tensions between the United Kingdom and the United States. Home to Fort Charlotte and later its two powerful seaward-facing batteries and underground tunnel complex, the island is also the site of one of Canada’s first fully automated lighthouses.
Georges Island was also used as a prison in the early years. Between 1755 and 1763, during the deportation of the Acadians, known as Le Grand Dérangement (The Great Upheaval), the island became a holding area for large numbers of Acadians.

Connaught Battery Command & Fire Control Post
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This WW I gun battery was part of the Halifax Defence Complex, was built between 1912-1916. Named and opened by the Duke of Connaught, a son of Queen Victoria and Canada’s Governor General at the time.
The battery had a great view of the outer Halifax harbour. It had three 4.7 quick firing guns, they fired a 45-pound projectile at a rate of 12 rounds per minute to an effective range of about 8,000 yards. The site also had barracks for a 70 man and was used to train troops before their deployment overseas. During the Second World searchlights were operated at the site and it was used as temporary service quarters.
It was designated a National Historic Site and today serves as a municipal park.
