This moai eye was discovered during the restoration of Ahu Nau Nau on Anakena Beach in 1978. It’s made of white coral with a red scoria pupil. It’s a known fact that the eyes were placed in the moai when it was on its ahu, but it’s still debated whether they were placed permanently or only during special ceremonies.

Went to the gym yesterday and I will say I was totally impressed with the staff and patrons, everyone was following all the rules and not one person was complaining. A TOTALLY safe environment and a bunch of happy people to be back working out.
Attending Your Activity
- Come ready to play: Arrive dressed for your workout, bring a full water bottle with you and leave your valuables and bags at home. No access to change rooms, water fountains, cubbies, or lockers in Stage 1.
- Please bring your membership card with you. You will need it for access.
- Masks can be worn, but are not recommended during physical activity.
- Please follow staff directions and safety protocols while inside the facility. Practice social distancing of 2m (6ft), good hand washing and respiratory hygiene at all times. Stay home if you are feeling unwell.
- Be kind and patient with everyone. Pace yourself as you return to physical activity.- At the end of an activity time-slot, all members booked for that time slot must exit the facility, regardless of the time they entered.
Canada is doing a really great job, we just have to keep the border with the USA closed for non essential travel.

This moai head, made of basalt was found at Ahu Kopeka Tae Ati (also called Ahu Tautira) in 1982.

The lack of rivers and the limited sources of freshwater in Rapa Nui, forced its inhabitants to develop a system for the collection and accumulation of rain water. The most popular is known as Taheta.
Most of them consist on a concave carved in the bedrock. However this Taheta was carved in a single piece of basalt rock, which makes it transportable. It was decorated with a face, due to erosion the face lacks detail.

A fish-shaped wooden tablet with Rongorongo inscriptions.

Rongorongo inscriptions, this is a copy of the tablet called Mu'a Au Mingo Ata'i Hoa Au. It has 16 lines (8 on each side), a total of 720 Symbols. In all of Polynesia, Rapa Nui is the only place that developed a system of writing, it still baffles epigraphists.
Unfortunately, the Rongo Rongo scripture tablets were sold or interchanged between the Europeans and the islanders or were burned by the missionaries, who considered them satanic, thought they caused strange mental and spiritual states, and that they carried spiritual messages that contravened their work of evangelization.
