All that remains of the resort is the top of a 56 meter (185 ft) castle tower peeking over the trees is all that remains of a resort built in 1903 in Freeport, Maine. In the 1880s to the 1920s, electric trolleys were the way to get around. Amos F. Gerald, the “Electric Railway King” of Maine. He built or bought a number of railways in Maine and also built resorts, hotels and casinos. He build this resort in Freeport. In 1903, he opened Casco Castle, a summer resort featuring a hotel for 100 guests. The hotel was constructed of wood (with stone like grey shingles) connected to the stone tower by bridges. A fire broke out and quickly spread through the dry wooden hotel, all that remains is the stone tower.
