Jerash, 48 kilometers from of Amman is considered one of the largest and most well-preserved Roman sites in the world outside Italy. Archaeologists have found the ruins of settlements dating back to the Neolithic Age, indicating human occupation at this location for more than 6500 years. Above is the entrance to the Hippadrome.

Temple of Zeus was built in 162 AD, it stands on the ruins of other earlier sacred sites. The staircase leads up to an esplanade that was a sacred area which was enclosed in a shrine in 100-80 BC. Another stairway leads to the temple which originally was surrounded by 15m high Corinthian columns. South Theatre can be seen on the right. Jerash, Jordan
