The Bay of Fundy has tides rising as much as 16.3 meters (53ft) over a 12-hour period twice each day. The site has great views of the natural phenomenon.

There have been three lighthouses over 180 years. The first was built in 1838 and was operational by 1840. The second was built in 1869 after the first was worn out in 1868. The original lighthouse was converted into the keeper's residence. The third lighthouse, built in 1904, remains standing. It was the first square lighthouse in the province and is New Brunswick's oldest lighthouse.

The lighthouse in Harvey was originally built in 1889 and located in Waterside. It was destroyed in 1902 after being repeatedly damaged by storms it was rebuilt in 1903. It was later moved four times before ending up in its current location, it has been called the “Travelling Lighthouse”. This is probably the most popular lighthouse in all of New Brunswick.

The lighthouse is not in great conditions, all the windows were broken the door was open and needs a coat of paint. The light has been removed.
