i had waded out a bit to get closer to "big red" across the lagoon. whoa, he flew in and i sat in the water to have a front row seat for the show! (matinee)

on a tiny island and very populated rookery in south texas, the reddish egret clan were delegated to nesting amongst the cacti. tough birds eh!

reddish egrets represent two species: dark morph and white morph, along with two sub species found in southern US and eastern mexico, with the other population in western mexico. My favorite bird! ( in any color!)
