Good to be back... This bird is a lifer for me and I enjoyed watching this grassland sparrow graze throughout the afternoon. Beautiful colors and very sweet short tail. There is a hint of yellow at the wing bend and sometimes this sparrow is known as the yellow wing sparrow. Didn't hear it call and didn't see any grasshoppers for it to eat.

This is a lifer for me and what a beauty he is. It is unusual to have these crossbills in our area but because there is an abundance of coniferous cones, we have visitors!!! The male is a lovely rose color with grey black and white. The upper mandible is straight whereas the lower mandible is crossed, which aids the bird to harvest the seed from the cone and eat.
