Tuesday, 22 March 2022: our temperature is 11°C (windchill 9°C) just before 10:00 pm. Sunrise was at 7:32 am, and sunset was at 7:54 pm.

Yesterday, 21 March 2022, I went for another drive E of Calgary. I had thought about going NE as well, but started to feel that I was driving just for the sake of driving.

Not a lot to be seen, but it was great to see groups of migrating Trumpeter Swans in a couple of the fields. It's amazing how birds know that it is now spring, and they are arriving in and around the city in huge numbers. This time, I saw the female Great Horned Owl, the mate of the male that my daughter and I had seen a few days ago. No sign of the male yesterday.

A few barns were good to see, ones that I don't see very often.

The fields were bare of snow - yet March is said to be the snowiest month in Alberta. Such mild weather recently, which makes everything so much easier.

Ha, I had a new experience today. I need to make an appointment to get a car service. When I phoned, I got a 'robot' (virtual assistant) on the other end of the line. She ended up booking me for an appointment, about five minutes later than my phone call, which was useless. There were questions I needed to ask, such as what was the latest time for me to drop off my car in order to get my car back the same day. She didn't answer my questions. So, I made another call to ask a real person, but my call just went to voice mail. Will have to try again tomorrow.

"Known as a “Buffalo 2000” the elevator seen here in Lyalta Alberta was an innovative and advanced design for its time and was to help usher in a new and exciting era in the Canadian grain handling industry. It was the future!

However, in spite of such lofty aspirations, in the end only three of these were ever built and they quickly became a mere footnote in history, an answer to a question no one asked. For the always cash strapped industry, mass replacements ended up being just too costly a project and while the wooden elevator was an anachronism, they worked “okay”.

The elevator seen here, in Lyalta Alberta, was built in 1982. Around that same time, two very similar structures were also built in Foremost and Boyle Alberta respectively."
