Sigh ......
It was raining here when I got up this morning, 29 October 2021. Then it began to snow, fortunately just lightly. Because the ground was already wet, the snow didn't settle at all. More snow tonight, according to the forecast. Glad I washed my car yesterday, to remove all the dried mud and bug splatters, ready for taking it for its paint repair on Monday.
"People across much of southern Alberta will be waking to ongoing snow Friday (29 October 2021) to see out the week – including Calgary. While the city may see a few centimetres, the real accumulations are in the foothills and mountains, where as much as 40 cm is possible by the time the snow finally exits the region Saturday morning. By the weekend, widespread cooler temperatures will span the Prairies, with daytime highs struggling to climb over the freezing mark. While not unusual for this time of year, this will be by far, the coldest weather of the season to date." From the Weather Network.
On 27 October 2021, I went on another walk, this time in the SIkome/Hulls Wood/Bow Valley Ranche areas. Very quiet as far as birding was concerned, but very enjoyable with just four friends. The original plan was to go to the Lafarge area, but it is still closed to access while bridge construction continues (for another year, till October 2022?). Instead, we did a long walk, from one area to another at the east end of the park. A few years ago, I used to often walk in these areas, but now I very rarely go.
I had seen a few photos of the Dome Dining area by the Bow Valley Ranche. Very creative "igloos" to allow people to enjoy separated dining, especially during COVID-19. Near the Ranche, down a paved path, is Annie's cafe. This sculpture was on display near the cafe.
Thanks for the enjoyable walk, Tony! Just like the 'old days'. Even with a shortage of birds, the company of everyone was even more important.

A photo of Bow Valley Ranche, at the east end of Fish Creek Park. This site has quite an interesting history, found at the two links below. Some of the indoor scenes in the movies Santa Baby 1 and Santa Baby 2 were filmed in this fine old building.
"The William Roper Hull Ranche House is a late nineteenth century, brick, two-storey, Tudor (Gothic) Revival style house with Victorian Stick detailing. It is situated on approximately half a hectare in southeast Calgary near the confluence of Fish Creek and the Bow River on Crown land within Fish Creek Provincial Park. Two additions were made to the ranch house in 1946 and 1957.
The heritage value of the William Roper Hull Ranche House site lies in its representation of the upper-class society that emerged amid the development of ranching in Southern Alberta. The architecture of the ranch house establishes a direct link with the early ranching industry in Southern Alberta and the lifestyles of the ranching elite, notably its owners, the influential cattle barons William Roper Hull and Patrick Burns."
