I am already falling behind! The last two days, I have been away from home for pretty much the whole of each day. The construction/repair guys have now installed a ton of scaffolding all over my building and it makes me feel really uncomfortable. Today, though, 8 April 2021, I needed a day at home to recover from my two driving days.
On Tuesday of this week, 6 April 2021, I went on a morning walk at Carburn Park with a handful of birding friends (10 is the limit during the Covid restrictions at the moment). I very rarely get to this park on my own, so this was a good opportunity for me. Seeing a group of 5 Harlequin Ducks was a real treat. I was also happy to get at least a reasonable photo of an American Robin for the first time this winter/spring.
Always a fun thing to see a Canada Goose nesting in a tree cavity near the river. Apparently, goslings can safely jump from a height of about three storeys.
We were lucky to see a female Bald Eagle lying on her nest, high up in a tree way across the river. The male happened to fly in and join her while we were watching from afar. Hopefully, they will have a successful new family.
After our walk ended around noon, I decided to keep driving eastwards and out of the city, as I was already part way. Not much to see birdwise on my drive, but I did stop to photograph an old barn or two. I got myself really lost and kept coming to road signs that said 'No Exit'. Eventually found myself way out east by Namaka Lake! This was the first time I had ever driven in that area.
I timed my drive to make sure I arrived home just after the workmen had left for the day. The next day, yesterday, I drove out of the city for a few hours, again making sure I got back home when all was quiet. For sure, I won't be able to keep this up for about 16 weeks!
