November 16th was my late daughter's birthday - and still is. Fiona, you are missed every single day and loved as much as ever..

Monday, 16 November 2020: our temperature at 11:30 am is PLUS 2C (windchill 0C). Sunrise is at 7:55 am and sunset is at 4:45 pm. Cloudy but some sun this morning.

Yesterday, 15 November 2020, was a pleasant weather day, so I decided to make the most of it and go for a fairly short drive east of the city. My time was short, as I had overslept and left home at least two hours later than I had hoped. Later in the day, I wanted to make sure that my drive home was not when the light was failing, as my night vision is useless. Just enough time to drive a few familiar roads and take a handful of photos. Unlike two days earlier, the sky provided no cloud drama.

One surprise was similar to the surprise I got two days earlier, when I found a late fall migrant Western Meadowlark SE of the city. Yesterday's find was not just a lone Meadowlark, but what was presumably a family of them. Maybe half a dozen birds that flew across the road in front of me, flashing bright yellow patches. Puzzled at first, wondering what yellow birds I could be seeing at this time of year, I then spotted them on the ground in a tangle of dry grasses. A few seconds later, off they flew. I wonder if the adults nested late and have had to wait till the young ones would be strong enough to migrate.

The other few photos I took were all of red barns. All but one were familiar ones, but one was newly seen and almost missed. I only took a couple of rapid shots of it, as the family's house was right by it. Makes me very uncomfortable, photographing barns that are part of the present day farm, and so close to the road. Taken, sitting in my car.

Two more days and I can finally get my winter tires put on my car. A long wait for an appointment, but I will be relieved once they are installed.
