Today, 6 September 2020, we have a Special Weather Statement for today and tomorrow, Labour Weekend Monday: Abrupt Transition to Fall this Labour Day Long Weekend for Southern Alberta. Rain, and snow for the Rockies and foothills. Frost is likely over parts of Alberta on Monday morning and widespread on Tuesday morning, especially in southern and central regions.
Our temperature this afternoon is 13C (windchill 13C). Very overcast, with rain in the forecast. Sunrise is at 6:58 am and sunset is at 8:08 pm. Hopefully the bad weather will keep a lot of people at home. and away from crowds celebrating the long weekend.
Yesterday, 5 September 2020, I needed to get out for a bit and ended up driving to the Saskatoon farm - my go-to place when I don't want to do a long drive. I needed fruit and vegetables and prefer to get them, when possible, at the Farm rather than go to my grocery store. Lots of people had the same idea, but at least most of the time was spent outdoors. At a rough guess, I would say that maybe half the visitors were wearing masks. As usual, I enjoyed a very late lunch/very early supper and had a quick wander round.
Afterwards, I drove a bit further, to Frank Lake, but, at a quick glance, I couldn't see anything that was close enough to photograph without walking down by the lake edge. The American White Pelicans are still there, but I have already taken plenty of photos, many of which have not been posted. I did see a hawk in the area. I also watched a different hawk, at a different location, patiently waiting for the harvesting machines to stir up the rodents in the field, ready to catch its next snack or meal. This must be difficult work for the farmers, driving in such dust-laden air. So important to appreciate all the work they do.
