Tuesday, 7 January 2020: temperature is -9C (windchill -14C) around noon. Sunrise is at 8:38 am, sunset is at 4:47 pm. Heavily overcast and waiting for the forecast snow to start this afternoon. We are in for bitterly cold weather for the next week. Supposed to get down to -26C on Monday 13 January (windchill -32C).
This morning, 7 January 2020, I have added photos taken on two different days. Nothing special, but just wanted to get them out of the way. The annual New Year's Day Count in Fish Creek Park resulted in just one quick shot, posted only as a record that I participated in this Count. The other 12 photos were taken on 3 January 2020, when I took part in the BirdYYC2020 kickoff day of birding. This involved visiting several different locations in Calgary, including Carburn Park starting at 8:30 am, Shannon Terrace and Votier's Flats in Fish Creek Park, and Queen's Park Cemetery (which I had never been to before). I did the walk at Carburn, but shortened my walk in Fish Creek Park. The final walk at Queen's Park Cemetery made me feel that I couldn't take one more step!
Many thanks, Tony, for the ride - I would not have been able to drive to the meeting place in the dark with poor night vision, so would have had to miss the day.
"BirdYYC2020 is a year-long challenge in which participants try to find as many species of birds as they can within the Calgary city limits." This is meant to be a challenge, not a competition, but I can well imagine there will be tremendous competition amongst many of the participating birders. I did register, but I'm not really taking part. I don't possess a smart phone, anyway.
