This was taken on just a very short drive east of the city on 20 December 2019. I had hoped to drive a few more backroads to look for a Snowy Owl but, after talking with another photographer who had just driven a lot of roads and not seen a single owl, I decided to return home instead.

Sunday, 12 January 2020: our temperature at around 11:00 am is -24C (windchill -37C). It may well have been a degree or two colder, earlier. Sunrise is at 8:35 am, sunset at 4:54 pm. We are deep in a brutal, dangerous deep freeze this weekend and all next week. Temperatures not to mess with - if you don't absolutely have to go out, be wise and stay home. We will all be so relieved when this frigid spell is over.
Warm colour is definitely needed today, so I am finally getting round to posting a couple of photos taken on 20 December 2019. I had seen a Great Horned Owl in the trees at this location a few years ago, so was very happy to find one sitting in the old barn window. Sleepy owl, enjoying the sunshine. I think this must be around the 16th or 18th time I have found an owl sitting in various barn windows, so I have been extremely lucky.
