Now, to be fair, I don't know that it was an avalanche that took out the sign. But what else rips a signpost out of the ground, bending it in the process, and flattens the sign to the ground? Geotag very approximate -- somewhere in South Central Alaska, probably along the Seward Hwy.

At only ~1500 ft, we are up above the timberline here. Trails' End Horse Adventures -- great guide. Looks like he's still in business, 21 yr later.

These were available as kits. They're now listed by the state of Alaska as a historic architecture style eligible for landmark status -- see dnr.alaska.gov/parks/oha/styleguide/geodesicdome.htm. The house here used the 1-story module as a bedroom and the 2-story as a living area.
I tried to find it on Google Maps, but I suspect a new owner has torn it down. The area is far more built up than it had been in the 1990s.
