Mission São Tomé, day 12: we were going to São João dos Angolares (southern coast) and suddleny there she was, walking on the road, like an apparition. Stop. Do you mind if. No. Thank you. Click

São Tomé e Príncipe is an African country in the Gulf of Guinea, right on the Equator. A former colony of the Portuguese Empire, the island of São Tomé offers dramatic landscapes with torrents and waterfalls on its slopes, luxuriant mountains which culminates in Pico de São Tomé (2,024 m), sheer cliffs over the sea, as well as huge plantations (café, cacao) from the colonial era, primary rainforests filled with exotic birds, butterflies, black snakes and lush vegetation

Mission São Tomé, day 06: exploring ST virgin southwestern coastline by boat, we decided to baptize this wonderful unnamed spot with the name of the mate who took us there. Somewhere in the dense equatorial jungle of São Tomé there's an elegant waterfall on a beach called João Santos

Mission São Tomé, day 10: we arrived at Praia Jalé just before the tempest. Probably the most pleasant beach in the Island. Visually, I mean. Then came the rain. 3 consecutive hours of good old equatorial rain (torrential!), which produced some floods here and there. Who cares, when you have 30ºC and 91% humidity in the air. So, let it rain

Mission São Tomé, day 14. Praia Micolo is a yellow sand beach with coconut trees and three ships at the wrong place (bad parking, let's say). The local conservation programme is in operation here, and netting marks the areas where turtles have laid their eggs. One night, we saw one turtle arriving to the beach; she put 138 eggs and then go back to the Ocean. They were delicious, fried (just kidding)

Mission São Tomé, day 05: the capital city of São Tomé is similar to New York if you think about yellow cabs, lots of yellow cabs. This is the Conceição avenue [dowtown] probably the place of the World with the major concentration of active Toyotas from the eighties. The population are similar, too: NYC has only more 8,3 million inhabitants. And there's another coincidence: none of these two cities have an avenue named Yuri Andropov - remember Andropov?
