The Bussaco Palace was one of the most luxurious royal retreats in Portugal. Back in 1888, King Charles I of Portugal commissioned an Italian operatic scene painter and architect - Luigi Manini - to build a summer palace and hunting lodge in the Buçaco Forest (250 acres of woodland originally planted by Carmelite monks). The idea was to build a new Belem Tower (the Lisbon tower which symbolises Portugal’s age of discoveries) surrounding by a tranquil sea of green forest. The building was completed in 1907, shortly before the assassination of the king and crown prince. The king's Swiss chef obtained government permission to turn the palace into a hotel in 1910, and guests have been wallowing in neo-Manueline architecture and Edwardian comforts ever since

Took this one in Alcácer do Sal, a little town 100km south of Lisbon with more than 5.000 years of History and important cultural remains from the Phoenicians, Visigoths, Arabs, Vikings and Romans. The Castle dates back to the 6th century B.C. (Iron Age) and is set on a hilltop overlooking river Sado and a vast green valley where cork, rice and pine-nuts are produced. Under Roman occupation, played a major role in Alentejo’s economical and political life. During Visigoth ruling it became one of the strongest and most important castles in the Iberian Peninsula. It was permanently conquered to the Moors in 1217

This is a term used in the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe that means a carefree way of living, totally devoid of stress - similar to the caribbean 'be happy - don't worry'. Look at this young woman [met her in the streets of Santo António]: does she seem tense, worried?...
