Can't believe 2023 is coming to an end. It has been a fun year for getting out into the wild. Watching these Grebes dance was one of several highlights.

Was surprised to find these babies in August. I usually shoot them in May/June.

Posting this next to yesterdays Western Grebe as makes it easy to see the difference in Grebes. The Clark's Grebe the black crown ends above their eyes and their beaks are more orange, where the western Grebe black crest ends below their eyes.
Grebe chicks will ride on their parents backs for 2-4wks. I read the red patch on their forehead which is not often visible indicates they are hungry.
They were pretty far out in the water. This is a big crop.

Last in my grebe parent and chick series. An Eared Grebe parent feeds their chick a tasty bug breakfast.
