This is a section of a path in the local graveyard made up from old headstones, why they were originally taken up I don’t recall, but for years they were just left piled again the ruins of the 1214 Holy Ghost chapel.

For a small town graveyard this place has some notable inhabitants, amongst others: John Liddle a WW1 recipient of the Victoria Cross, Thomas Burberry founder of the Burberry empire, and Mrs Blunden who was reputedly buried alive here, leading to the Victorian fashion of having some kind of external alarm that could be operated from within a coffin. Also 'voice of cricket' John Arlott was the son of the cemetery keeper and he lived for many years in the graveyard keeper’s cottage.

Title comes from the Alabama 3’s song ‘Woke Up this Morning’
