The tiny American Pika is quick and elusive -definitely a challenge to photograph. They are only about 6 inches long, weigh in at about 5-7 ounces and make their homes in talus slopes at high elevations. I found a number of them in Yellowstone NP while on a Don Quintana photo tour.

Last May on the way to Yellowstone we drove out to a herd of wild horses in Utah. Several of them thundered by kicking up dust as they ran past. They are not beautiful horses in the classical sense, but they have a wild, powerful and free presence.
