Illuminated by the early morning sun, this Glossy guy was foraging in the shallows in hopes of an early meal.

Two monks stand at the base of a giant reclining Buddha in Vietnam. Reclining Buddhas are a common motif in Theravada Buddhism, as it symbolizes "Parinirvana," the moment of Buddha's death and final passing into Nirvana, and the ultimate state of liberation from suffering and rebirth in Buddhist belief. I have seen giant statues of reclining Buddhas in many parts of SE Asia, including China, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. Currently, the largest statue of a reclining Buddha is located in Myanmar and measures about 180 meters (590 feet) in length.

I think the cormorants are better fishermen. The pelicans definitely pay attention to the cormorants, almost like they're hoping the cormorant will lead them to the fish. And if the cormorant gets one, it could be mobbed by the pelicans, hoping for a steal. I actually have an old series of a pelican taking the fish a heron on the shoreline had just caught.

Moab, Utah

We gaze towards the north edge of a canyon carved by the Colorado River. Some small sandstone towers present themselves on the right. We ignore the much larger iconic formations behind us; that’s not this photo.
